Here are some simple ways to make use of the Search Console

Ranking well in search can be a game changer for your real estate business. By showing up for valuable search queries, real estate agents can get free organic traffic, which can ultimately lead to more clients.

In this post, Jordan Sheltgen will get into three ways agents can easily increase their Google presence.

1. Understand what keywords are valuable and attainable

Jordan Sheltgen has been approached by real estate agents and brokerages around the country, wanting to know what it would take to rank for high value, and to be honest, unrealistic keywords. An example of this would be “[your city] + real estate” — it’ll be nearly impossible to rank in the top three positions for in Google.

Zillow, Trulia, Redfin, etc., will dominate the first page of results for these types of queries — this is because they’ve made sizable investments in their SEO over the last 10-15 years.

It’s borderline impossible to compete for these keywords. However, the good news is that you don’t need them to be successful on Google.

Instead of focusing on the short keywords, agents should focus on long-tail keywords and ranking for as many of them as possible. Long-tail keywords are those with multiple words that are more specific — they receive less volume in search but also have less competition.

An example of a long-tail keyword would be, “What is it like raising a family in Los Angeles?” If you can create content that answers questions like this, you’ll have a much better chance of ranking in search and getting people back to your website.

2. Learn how to edit title tags and meta descriptions

This is basic, tried, tested and true SEO. You should change the titles of each page to clearly state what that page is about. If you see you have a lot of duplicate titles, this means you need to edit each page’s title tag.

These help directly with ranking. Next, you will want to edit the meta descriptions (the text under the title tags) to attract people to click your link over the others.

3. Learn how to use search console

SEO software can be expensive, especially for those who are just getting into SEO. The good news is that Google has its own SEO tool that’s completely free.

In this video, Jordan Sheltgen goes through some simple ways to make use of Search Console for agents, and you can do a deep dive after you’ve gotten familiar with the platform.
